Types of disposable respirator masks
A disposable respirator mask filters dust and mist from the air the wearer breathes and is thrown away after use. The FFP1, FFP2, FFP3 and N95 levels on this page are the maker's rating.
- 3M: 9004IN flat fold (box of 50), 9000ING grey (box of 100), 9004GV valved flat fold (box of 25), 8822 valved cup (box of 10), and 9913 with a carbon layer for dust, mist and nuisance odour (box of 15).
- Venus fold flat: V-44+ FFP1 and V-444+ FFP2 (packs of 50), V-410 FFP1 valved, V-420 FFP2 valved, V-414 FFP2 with carbon, V-425 FFP2 with carbon for welding, and the V-4400 N95 type (pack of 50).
- Venus cup: V-20 FFP2 valved in grey or white and the V-90 FFP2 net mask (packs of 10), V-2424 with a carbon layer, V-2426 with an acid gas layer and foam seal, and the CN95 OV.
- Karam: RF02 with ear loops and RFH02 with headbands, valved RF02+ and RFH02+, FFP2 SL, RFH22+OV for painting, RFH32+OV for welding, and the RFH03+ FFP3 flat fold mask.
How to choose a disposable mask
- Filter level: FFP1 type for light nuisance dust; FFP2 or N95 type for finer dust and fumes; FFP3 type for the finest dust. These are the maker's rating; match them to your hazard.
- Carbon layer: a carbon or OV layer cuts nuisance odours from paint or welding. It does not replace a gas cartridge for high vapour levels.
- Valve: a valved mask is cooler and easier to breathe out through on long shifts.
- Shape: fold flat masks are easy to carry in a pocket; cup masks hold their shape and keep space in front of the mouth.
- Straps: headbands give a firmer seal than ear loops. Shape the nose clip and check the seal each time.
