Hand protection by hazard

Hand injuries are among the most common at work, and no single glove suits every job. Start with the hazard, then pick the glove:

  • General handling and packing: cotton knitted gloves (Raga, 35 to 80 g a pair) and PVC dotted gloves (Udyogi) for grip and light protection.
  • Assembly and oily parts: PU and nitrile palm coated gloves from Portwest, Mallcom, Karam and Udyogi; heavy nitrile oil grip gloves for grease and coolant.
  • Sharp edges: HPPE cut resistant gloves from Portwest, Mallcom, Udyogi and Karam, with cut levels shown as the maker's rating.
  • Chemicals and cleaning: PVC gauntlets, natural rubber and unsupported nitrile gloves, and disposable nitrile gloves for labs and food.
  • Heat and welding: split leather welder gloves, aramid and aluminised aramid gloves, and the HICARE 22 inch aluminised aramid glove for radiant heat.
  • Extreme cold: cryogenic gloves from HICARE and Udyogi for liquid nitrogen dewars and cold stores.
  • Electrical work: the Diamond Protech DR-001 rubber glove, rated by the maker for use up to 1000 V AC.
  • Knife work and ESD areas: the Udyogi stainless steel chain mesh glove for meat and fish processing, and Portwest antistatic gloves for electronics.

For a glove-by-glove guide by material and coating, see safety gloves.

Setting up a glove programme

  • Map jobs to gloves: list each job, its hazard and the glove for it, and display it at the workstation.
  • Balance protection and feel: a glove that is too thick for fine work will be taken off. Thin coated gloves suit assembly; heavy gloves suit heavy work.
  • Sizes: keep a mix of sizes in store; loose gloves can catch in machines.
  • Packs: many gloves come in packs of 12 or 100 pairs, or boxes of 100 for disposables, which helps store planning.
  • Replace on time: change gloves that are cut, worn through, swollen by chemicals or stiff with heat.

Hand Protection FAQs

Quick answers to what buyers ask us most. For anything else, ask us on WhatsApp.

Ask on WhatsApp
How do I choose the right glove for a job?

Start with the main hazard (cuts, oil, chemicals, heat, cold or electricity), then pick a glove made for it with enough finger feel for the task. Our team can suggest gloves if you send the job list.

Which gloves are used for handling sheet metal and glass?

Cut resistant gloves with an HPPE liner and a PU, latex or nitrile palm. Cut levels are shown as the maker's rating; pick a higher level for sharper edges.

Which gloves are used for electrical work?

Rubber electrical gloves such as the Diamond Protech DR-001, rated by the maker for use up to 1000 V AC. Check them for holes before every use.

Do you sell gloves in bulk packs?

Yes. Many gloves come in packs of 12 or 100 pairs, and disposable nitrile gloves in boxes of 100. Ask for bulk pricing for larger orders.

Are the prices on this page final?

No. Each product shows a starting price as a guide, before GST. The final price comes with your quote and depends on the options and quantity.
