Types of face shields and visors
- Clear face shields: the Karam ES51 with a clear polycarbonate visor, and Udyogi FC 38, FC 58 and IM9 replacement visors, for grinding, chipping and liquid splash.
- Tinted and gold coated visors: green FC 38 and FC 48 G visors and the gold coated IM22 visor from Udyogi, for glare and furnace work.
- Carriers and brackets: Udyogi A3, A4, AL 8, B10R and FC 100 carriers worn on the head, and CB series brackets that hold a shield on a safety helmet.
- Flip-front face shields: the Udyogi QV series, a clear shield with a tinted flip-front window, plus 4 and 6 inch replacement flip fronts.
- Arc flash face shields: Udyogi face shield kits with helmet, rated 8 to 12 cal/cm² by the maker, and replacement arc flash visors from 8 to 40 cal/cm² (maker's rating).

A face shield is worn over safety spectacles or goggles, not in place of them.
How to choose face protection
- Hazard: clear visors for flying particles and splash, tinted or gold coated visors for heat and glare, shade lenses for welding, and an arc flash shield for live panel work.
- Mounting: a head-worn carrier suits benches and workshops; a helmet bracket suits sites where a helmet is already worn. Check that the bracket fits your safety helmet.
- Replace, do not discard: visors scratch with use. Buying replacement visors for the same carrier keeps the cost down.
- Arc flash rating: match the cal rating of the shield to the rest of the arc flash kit. The rating shown is the maker's rating.
