Types of eye wash and safety shower units
After a chemical splash, the first seconds count: the eyes, face or body must be flushed with plenty of water straight away. Udyogi makes units for each need:
- Eye and face wash fountains: the 4220 pedestal unit with a push lever, the 4710 pedestal unit with a foot pedal, and the 4810 wall mounted unit, each in GI or SS. They flush the eyes and face.
- Emergency drench showers: the 6810 GI floor standing shower with a pull rod, and the 4101 GI head shower bowl that is mounted on a ceiling or pipe. They flush the whole body.
- Combination safety shower and eye wash: the 6220 (hand operated) and 6250 (hand and foot operated), in GI or SS, with both a shower and an eye wash on one stand.
- Portable eye wash: the EW 3501 34 litre portable station and a 500 ml eye wash bottle with a wall stand, for places with no water line.
How to choose
- Splash risk: where only the eyes and face are at risk, such as small labs, an eye and face wash fountain is enough. Where large amounts of chemicals are handled, use a combination unit so the whole body can be flushed.
- Water supply: plumbed units need a water line. Where there is none, such as remote sites or vehicles, use the portable EW 3501 or the 500 ml bottle for first flushing.
- Material: stainless steel (SS) resists rust and is easier to keep clean, so it suits corrosive and food or pharma areas. Galvanised iron (GI) suits general plant use.
- Operation: a foot pedal keeps both hands free to hold the eyes open; a push lever or pull rod is simple and quick.
- Placement: fit the unit close to the hazard on a clear, level path, mark it well, and run it every week so the water stays clean.
