Types of road delineators
- Spring post delineators: orange or red flexible posts with white reflective bands, 300 mm to 1000 mm tall (750 mm is the common height). They bend when a vehicle hits them and spring back. T-top models take a chain.
- Guide posts on rubber bases: T-top and loop-top posts that stand on a rubber base, to guide traffic and hold a chain.
- Lane separator kerbs: bolt-down plastic kerbs with flexible posts that split lanes at toll plazas, flyovers, U-turns and bus lanes, with end pieces and lane divider posts.
- Road edge delineator posts: ABS posts with reflectors that show where the road edge and curves run at night.
- Wall, kerb and median markers: short delineators with large reflectors for walls, kerbs, tunnels, bridges and median ends.
- Bollards and barrier posts: a 1500 mm polyethylene bollard with a sign face and a 1200 mm black and yellow barrier post.
- Solar blinkers: lights that charge by day and flash at night on cones, barricades and posts, plus a double chain delineator.
How to choose a delineator
- Use: to keep vehicles in lane or out of a walkway, use spring posts or a lane separator kerb. To mark a road edge or curve, use edge posts or wall markers.
- Height: 750 mm suits most roads and parking lanes; shorter posts suit low medians and longer ones suit wider roads.
- Flexible or rigid: flexible posts recover after a hit and suit places where vehicles may touch them.
- Fixing: most posts are fixed with anchor bolts or epoxy on a concrete or bitumen surface.
