What an AED does
In a sudden cardiac arrest the heart stops pumping blood properly, and every minute without help matters. An AED is a portable device that reads the heart rhythm through two pads placed on the chest and, if needed, gives an electric shock to help restore a normal rhythm. It talks the user through every step, so a trained staff member can use it while an ambulance is on the way. CPR and an AED used together give the person the best chance.
Zoll Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 options
- G5 AED kit: the Powerheart G5 with its accessories in a kit, ready to place at a workplace.
- G5 AED, fully automatic: the G5 unit that gives the shock on its own when it is needed, after warning everyone to stand clear.
- Intellense spare battery: a spare battery for the G5, so the unit stays ready.
The Powerheart G5 gives RescueCoach voice and text prompts, has a CPR metronome to guide the pace of chest compressions, and runs daily self-checks so you know it is ready.
How to choose and place an AED
- Where: offices, malls, schools, hospitals, gyms, housing society clubhouses and factories, anywhere many people work or gather.
- How many: place it where it can be fetched quickly from any part of the floor or campus. Large sites often need more than one.
- Mounting: keep it in a marked, easy to reach spot near the first aid room, reception or main corridor, not locked away.
- Upkeep: check the status light, and keep a spare battery and pads within date.
- Training: train a few people on each shift in CPR and AED use.
