How to choose a waste bin

  • Segregation: use separate colours for wet, dry and other waste, and label each bin.
  • Size: small pedal or lid bins inside rooms; 90 to 240 litre wheeled bins for floors, wings and canteens; 660 or 1100 litre community bins at the main collection point.
  • Use: outdoor bins should be UV stabilised; roto moulded bins are heavier and suit rough handling.
  • Handling: wheels and handles make bins easier to move to the collection vehicle; a pedal keeps hands off the lid.
  • Organic waste: a composter turns kitchen and garden waste into compost on site.

Most societies use 120 or 240 litre wheeled bins on each floor or wing, and 660 or 1100 litre community bins at the main collection point.

What is the difference between injection and roto moulded bins?

Nilkamal WB bins are injection moulded; the RWB bins are roto moulded, heavier and made for rough handling.

Which colours are used for waste segregation?

Green is commonly used for wet waste and blue for dry waste, with other colours for other streams as set by your local body. Nilkamal dome lid bins come in red, yellow, green and blue.
